What music is the bass player into…..he’s so overlooked.

WTF

WTF

Hey all this is Jon, the bassist. I had a little time to type before the show tonight and I figured I would let you all get to know me a little better seeing that I am the noob to the band. As far as music goes I started playing bass almost 10 years ago….I was sitting in freshman study hall at LCHS in Ohio when my good friend Scott had a Fender catalog . I told him I was interested in starting to possibly play the guitar, not bass, at which time he replied, ” Jon everyone plays guitar….alot of bands look for bass player and anyways your hands are too mammoth.” I was taken aback by his comment and never really thought about playing bass. At the time I was obsessed with Joe Lally from Fugazi. So I got a Mexican P-Bass, which I still play today with RTS at time, and started getting into a wealth of bass-driven music. Primus, Bela Fleck and the Flectones ( Wooten), 88 Fingers Louie had a killer bassits…then I heard Hot Water Music. I heard Jason Black play and he alone, by far, has been a big influence on me as a player musically and personally. If you don’t listen to them yet…please do yourself the favor and buy No Division, incredible. From there, about 9 years ago, I became interested in all music ranging from The Get Up Kids to Slayer to Death to King Crimson to Ministry and so on. Today I still listen to all different tunes…I think its good to keep an open mind and change it up. This week has been:

  1. Every Time I Die
  2. Dragonforce
  3. Thrice
  4. Hot Water Music
  5. Grizzly Bear
  6. Deftones

So there is a little info on the big guy in the corner. I hope to see some of you tonight…please come talk to me….I hate my bandmates.

-Jon
